Rototom 2018 Celebrates 25 years walking together – Schedule Info

Rototom 2018 celebrates 25 years walking together.   To celebrate their historic 25th anniversary,  Rototom Sunsplash extended their festival hours 24 hours to have a pre-festival celebration party beginning at midnight on Wednesday, August 15th. The all night party featuring two stages of entertainment is a great way to kick off the ultimate Reggae Festival experience.

The Main Event

The main event begins Thursday, August 16th.  With 9 stages and over 200 artists on the line-up this year,  there is definitely something for everyone.    Rototom will celebrate its quarter of a century of life with nine special shows. Californian guitarist Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals leads the bill on Thursday 16 with a show in reggae format designed exclusively for this festival. On the 17^th he is followed by Sly & Robbie along with Yellowman -in their only concert in Spain-, Johny Osbourne and Bitty McLean. The Skatalites – played by Derrick Morgan, Doreen Shafer and Vin Gordon – and the David Rodigan concert with a classical 25 piece orchestra to celebrate their 40 years in reggae, extend the list on August 18 and 19, respectively. More anniversaries for August 20: the 25th anniversary of Alborosie & Shengen Clan, in concert with members of The Wailers, and the 30th anniversary of Zion Train. Italian Reggae All Stars, the festival’s tribute to its Italian origins (August 21), closes the special shows on the Main Stage.

 

Rototom Line Up Changes

Slightly Stoopid will not be performing this year due to a medical issue.   The band recently announced online that  that they have canceled their current European tour due to an injury that band member Kyle  McDonald sustained and will prevent him from traveling to Europe.

Romain Virgo has been added to the line-up for the night of August 18th.    It’s been four years since he last performed at Rototom.  Romain has been on tour this year in support of his latest album, Love Sick.

On August 20th, Duane Stephenson will join Alborosie on the Main Stage along with members of The Wailers (Junior Marvin, Tyrone Downie, Aston Barrett Jr).
