While the Boston area was experiencing the strongest storm on record in the month of October (a bomb cyclone!), veteran Reggae / Dancehall artiste Papa Michigan (formerly of the dynamic duo Papa Michigan and General Smiley) unleashed his own powerful storm inside La Fabrica Central in Cambridge, MA.

The October 16th event celebrated the third anniversary of The Reggae Takeova, a popular weekly Wednesday night affair. Dion Knibb, son of the late legendary Lloyd Knibb of the Skatalites warmed up the crowd with a rousing performance.

Papa Michigan arrived in Boston straight out of Jamaica for the first of his two appearances in the area. It was a high energy set from start to finish as Papa Michigan put in a solid 90 minute top performance. He took the enthusiastic audience on a musical journey of song highlights from his career spanning 41 years this year!

Backed by the Boston-based band Dub Apocalypse, he opened up his set with the chart-topping 1979 Studio One hit “Rub-A-Dub Style” and continued with his other dancehall anthems mixed in along with hits from Michigan’s solo catalog, including his recent lovers rock release, “Put Your Loving On Me.”

Papa Michigan is ready to do it all over again at the next Reggae Takeova event happening on Sunday, October 20th at Tavern on the Wharf also featuring members of Dub Apocalypse.
